Single Room Hostel in Islamabad – A Real Look at Prices and Options
I’ve shared rooms most of my time in Islamabad. Four-seater, three-seater, two-seater – been through all of them. But there was a point in my final year when I just needed my own space. Somewhere quiet. Somewhere I could leave my stuff out without worrying. Somewhere I could study at 3 AM without someone asking me to turn the light off.
Finding a single room hostel in Islamabad turned out to be harder than I expected. They exist. But the good ones go fast, and the price range is wider than you’d think.
What Counts as a Single Room in Islamabad Hostels
Here’s the thing – not every single room is the same. Some hostels call a converted store room with a bed and a fan a “single.” Others give you an actual bedroom with an attached bathroom, a desk, and a wardrobe. The price gap reflects that.
Rough breakdown from what I’ve seen:
- Basic single: PKR 22,000 – 26,000. Small room, shared bathroom, basic furniture. You get privacy but not much else.
- Standard single: PKR 26,000 – 30,000. Attached bathroom, better space, usually has AC. This is the sweet spot for most people.
- Premium single: PKR 30,000 – 40,000. Big room, AC, good furniture, quiet building. Worth it if you can swing it.
The difference between a basic and a standard single, in my experience, is the attached bathroom. If you can afford the extra PKR 4,000-5,000, get the attached bath. Sharing a bathroom when you’re paying for a single room defeats the purpose.
Where to Find Single Rooms in Islamabad
I-11 – Most Options, Best Value
I-11 has the highest concentration of hostels in Islamabad because of its proximity to FAST, Bahria, and Air University. More hostels means more single rooms.
The range here is PKR 22,000 – 30,000 for a decent single. The commute to FAST is 5-10 minutes. Most of these are converted houses, so the quality depends on the specific property. I’ve seen single rooms in I-11 that are genuinely good – attached bath, AC, proper desk. I’ve also seen singles that are basically a bed in a box with a shared bathroom down the hall. Visit before you pay.
E-11 – Newer, Cleaner, More Expensive
Right next to I-11, separated by Kashmir Highway. E-11 has newer buildings and better infrastructure. The singles here run PKR 25,000 – 35,000.
The extra money gets you better construction, a more developed market area, and generally cleaner surroundings. If you have a bike and don’t mind paying a bit more, E-11 singles are a solid choice.
G-11 – Closer to City Center
G-11 is near the Metro and closer to NUST and IIUI. Singles here are PKR 24,000 – 35,000. The commute to FAST is about 15-20 minutes – not bad, but you’ll feel it over a semester.
Who Actually Needs a Single Room?
After living in shared rooms and talking to guys who’ve switched to singles, here’s who it makes sense for:
- Final year students who need to focus on a thesis or project
- Remote workers / freelancers who need reliable internet and a quiet space during the day
- PhD or masters students who do a lot of reading and writing
- People with irregular schedules – if you’re studying or working at odd hours, a single room means you’re not disturbing anyone
- Anyone who’s been in a shared room for 2+ years and just can’t do it anymore – this one’s more common than you’d think
If none of these apply to you, honestly, a good 2-seater with the right roommate might serve you just as well and save you PKR 5,000-8,000 a month.
What to Check Before Renting a Single Room in Islamabad
I made some of these mistakes myself. Learn from them:
- Is the room actually private? – Some “single rooms” share a partition wall so thin you can hear your neighbor’s breathing. Visit during someone else’s stay and test this.
- Natural light and air – Single rooms in basements or interior spaces can feel like a prison cell. Make sure there’s a window that opens.
- AC situation – Some hostels include AC for singles, others charge extra. Ask specifically.
- WiFi signal – Check that the internet reaches your room, not just the common areas downstairs.
- Visitor policy – Can friends come to your room? Some hostels say no visitors in rooms at all.
- AC or fan? – Summer in Islamabad hits hard. Single rooms without AC can get rough.
Ibrahim Hostel Singles
At Ibrahim Boys Hostel in I-11, single rooms start from PKR 26,000. What you get:
- Attached bathroom (in most singles)
- Per-floor WiFi – not shared across the whole building
- AC available. Islamabad summers hit 40C – AC is worth it.
- Home-style mess included
- CCTV + guard
- 5 minutes from FAST, Bahria, Air University
It’s run by Professor Yahya – 25 years as a lecturer at IIUI and Abasyn. The guy actually understands student life because he’s been around it for decades. That matters more than you’d think.
Check available single rooms ?
One last thing – good single rooms in Islamabad hostels are limited. Most hostels only have 2-4 of them. If you find one that works, don’t wait around too long deciding.
